Revocation Lands on International Charts With New Album, ‘The Outer Ones’

Revocation recently released their new album, The Outer Ones, via Metal Blade Records; for their efforts, the band has now entered the international charts! Produced by Zeuss (Rob Zombie, Queensryche, Whitechapel, etc.), The Outer Ones sees Revocation pushing both the death metal and progressive elements of their signature sound harder than ever. “I knew that I wanted to go in a darker direction, and this is our most death metal album to date,” states vocalist/guitarist Dave Davidson. “Sometimes when death metal bands go down the prog route they lose some of that edge, but we wanted to keep the aggression at the forefront of what we do while still pushing our boundaries...

Jed Simon Talks New Zimmers Hole and New Solo Project

The long-running comedic metal band featuring ex-Strapping Young Lad lads Jed Simon, Gene Hoglan, and Byron Stroud as well as vocalist Chris Valagao are writing a new album right now. While commenting on his basement studio in an interview with me on Far Beyond Metal, guitarist Jed Simon said, "Right now, I'm working on some Zimmers Hole." He then he gave me an exclusive listen to some recorded riffs to expect on the new record. You can hear that at the 3:40 mark. It’s rough, but it’s rad...

Review: Revocation’s Great is Our Sin Burns Down the House

With average bands, metal albums are often an absurd chore to get through, because the perceived necessity of satisfying genre tropes overcomes the individual creator’s personality. You can see every trick, compositional move, and structure coming from a mile away. You can guess what most bands’ “experimental” work is going to sound like relative to the rest of their discography. Even an album by a pretty good band might only have one inspired song, a few exciting riffs, or a single catchy chorus...

Vancouver’s 3 Inches of Blood Calls It A Day

Before we strap on the black armbands for 3 Inches of Blood, let’s reflect on some good times for the battle-hardened metal warriors from Vancouver. Singer Cam Pipes never expected to spend the past decade of his life touring the world and knocking things off his list of things to do before dying. In the beginning, the only thing he was looking for was a good time, something that he found faster than he ever dreamed...

3 Inches of Blood ‘Long Live Heavy Metal’ Blabbermouth.net Review

As side projects usually go, the musicians involved with them tend to steer toward the goal of getting a well-needed break from their bandmates. So, it may seem odd that two members of 3 Inches Of Blood, Justin Hagberg and Ash Pearson, would team up together and start a side project of their own. The fact that they are in the same band together played a major role in this project coming to fold. “With all of our touring together all we have is time. We had plenty of opportunity to talk about music and how we were going to do it,” Pearson explains. “We had a plan. As soon as we got back home, we set them up and then we knocked them down.” ...

3 Inches of Blood’s ‘Here Waits Thy Doom’: At Home in a Record Collection in 2009… or 1979

3 INCHES OF BLOOD is a known quantity in the world of metal, but I'm not sure the Canadians always get the attention they deserve from all corners of the traditional heavy metal community. Perhaps it is the purists that haven't invested any time in the band's four albums for juvenile reasons that include 3 INCHES OF BLOOD's place on the roster of a high-profile label like Century Media and all the marketing power that comes with it. Maybe that makes 3 INCHES OF BLOOD suspect in the eyes of those suspicious of anything not firmly wrapped in the comforter of underground credibility, perceived or otherwise. Cast such illogical notions aside and wrap yourself up in the true blue, indisputably credible blanket that is "Long Live Heavy Metal"...
